AAC 220

About a chair

Hee Welling is a Danish furniture designer who founded his own studio in Copenhagen in 2003. The son of a cabinetmaker, Welling’s fascination with production techniques, materials, and machinery was fired as a child. He went on to study at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and received his master’s degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Centred around the idea of creating technically accomplished products that can reach a wide audience, his designs are characterised by a great sense of proportion and quietly elegant aesthetics. Welling has received a number of design awards, including the Bo Bedre Award (Denmark), Good Design Award (USA), and has been nominated as Danish designer of the year in 2013 and 2014. For HAY, Welling has designed the About A series and the Hee Collection.

Technical Information

Featuring a swivel base in aluminium, the AAC 220 has a slightly more formal expression than the other variants in the series. Retaining the fundamental idea shared by the AAC collection, this model is characterised by a curved shell with a slightly higher back. Designed with optimal functionality in mind, the shell construction offers a deep, generous seat that combines inviting aesthetics with a high level of comfort, whilst the lower armrests provide good support and enable the chair to fit underneath a table or desk. The base is available in either polished or powder-coated aluminium, with the post-consumer recycled plastic shell offered in a wide palette of contemporary colours and multiple front upholstery options. The multitude of variants and design combinations give this series a versatile expression that makes it suitable for a wide variety of corporate, private, and public contexts.
