Timeless elegance. Sophisticated, refined, with a graceful silhouette. Soft Pad chairs are available in a selection of colors, materials, and bases that allow them to sit well in homes and offices. Herman Miller (Ray & Charles Eames) began making the Aluminum Group chairs in 1958. In 1969, the Eameses extended the original design by adding plush, individually upholstered cushions. They named these the Soft Pad chairs. The chairs’ simple lines, innovative use of materials, and suspension comfort have kept them among the most popular seating choices for both offices and homes for more than 50 years.

Technical Information

Give this timeless design a high degree of personalization through expansive material choices. Start with the luxurious feel of leather, in contract-grade or premium MCL—a semi-aniline, dyed leather with 100 percent natural full grain. You can also opt for a pairing of MCL Leather cushions with a sling seat/back suspension in a coordinating colorway of Hallingdal, a rich blend of wool and rayon. This subtle contrast in textures gives the design an added dimension of sophistication. Color variations and surface marks are an inherent characteristic of leather, which will acquire wrinkles and creases and develop a rich patina over time.
